SILC is a community school which supports 290 pupils aged between 2-19 with specialist educational needs including complex and multiple learning needs, severe learning disabilities, emotional mental health needs and autism.

Mountpark has visited many specialist schools over the years, but this was the first one that had such an impressive department dedicated to getting the children ready for real life beyond school and assist them in everyday skills to set them up for their first job.

In the company of Matt Gray of Variety, the Children’s Charity, the coach was presented to staff and students who were thrilled to take ownership of their new vehicle. The presentation was a fantastic opportunity for the visitors to meet the school community and appreciate the difference a Sunshine Coach can make. The coach will be used by the school to take children, including wheelchair users, out in the local community to help build their social skills and confidence.

Phillip O’Callaghan, MD of Mountpark UK & Ireland commented: “It was wonderful to meet the staff and students at SILC who were absolutely delighted to take ownership of their coach. Alice and I were impressed with how much thought the school has already put into utilising the coach to enrich youngsters’ lives, beginning with an exciting trip to Blackpool this week.

“With our forthcoming redevelopment of the former Ferrybridge power station site also in Yorkshire, it was great to spend time in the region last week. We look forward to continuing to make a difference to the local community here, as we progress our plans for Ferrybridge.”

Matt Gray, Corporate Partnerships Manager for Variety, the Children’s Charity, added: “It was great to attend this Sunshine Coach presentation alongside Mountpark, which has been such a dedicated supporter of our charity over the years. Our Sunshine Coaches are specially adapted for children with disabilities and special educational needs, allowing them to access places they would otherwise not be able to visit in a safe and enjoyable way. Mountpark’s hard working in raising the funds for this coach will make a huge difference to this school, and we cannot thank the company enough for its commitment to community enrichment.”
