Building opportunities at Mountpark Bardon II.23rd October 2019
With the development of large sites, such as Mountpark Bardon II across the East Midlands region, there is an increasing number of opportunities for local people seeking a career in the construction industry.
For those who are keen to gain both trade and professional qualifications, Stephenson College in Coalville, offers a wide range of construction courses and at the end of September, 11 students and two lecturers visited the Bardon II site, where we are building a 579,000 square foot logistics centre.
On arrival, the students were greeted by the Winvic Construction site management team, who gave them a brief induction, showed them a safety video and went through both risk assessments and method statements.
The students were then ready to walk around the site, accompanied by the site manager, who explained all the different trades, encouraging the students to ask questions and to point out any potential safety issues.
Returning to the site office, the students met Wal Groves, Construction Developer at Mountpark and the group discussed the way that Mountpark and Winvic work together to deliver a facility in line with the customer’s requirements.
“It was great to meet the students from Stephenson College and discuss both the building under construction and our plans for the wider site,” said Wal Groves. “It was a very productive day and Winvic are already in touch with the College to arrange a follow-up visit.”
Mountpark will continue to develop its education and training programme, in line with local needs, at all development projects across the UK and Ireland.
